Johnson O'Malley

Program Description

JOM primarily manages the Juneau Supplemental Native Education Program (SNEP), and monitors the three regional programs in Haines, Klawock, and Wrangell. The program serves Native students from three years of age through the twelfth grade. Local programming is determined by an annual community assessment and Native parent committees.

Goals

To seek involvement with National/State Native organizations and legislation affecting budgets and policy in Indian Education. To promote pride in Native heritage, maximize student retention in schools, utilize community resources in advocating for Native issues, promote Native teacher hire, and provide opportunities for Native students to strengthen/develop skills of leadership.

JOM can be found in the Juneau-Douglas High School where tutoring, academic support, cultural activities, summer education programs and after school activities are provided.  One aspect of the program can be found at the Early Scholars website; click here for more info.
